ILA:- ( Sound of Islay) Built in 1846 overlooking the Sound of
Islay from which the name is taken. The distillery has a substantiai pier,
which allowedthe delivery ofbarley and assorted cargo, as weil as the
export of mature whisky in cask. To-day these goods are transported by
road. The distillery is owned by UD. v: ( part of Diageo), Caol Ila '
was rebuilt and expanded from 2 Still s to 6 Stills between 1972- 74,
with the still-house boasting the finest view of any distillery in Scotland.
Phenol levels of Caol ila run at 34p.p.m. Tours are normally only undertaken
